CDCP Renewal for 2026–2027: What Patients Need to Know

If you are enrolled in the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP), it’s important to know that coverage must be renewed every year to remain active. The renewal period for the 2026–2027 benefit year is approaching, and completing your renewal on time will help prevent any gaps in your dental coverage. At Calabogie Smiles Dental Hygiene, we want our patients to feel prepared and informed, so here’s a simple breakdown of what you need to know.

Key CDCP Renewal Dates

  • April 15, 2026 – Renewal period opens

  • June 1, 2026 – Deadline to renew to avoid a gap in coverage

  • June 30, 2026 – End of the current benefit year

  • July 1, 2026 – June 30, 2027 – New benefit year

If you submit your renewal after June 1, your coverage may restart later and you could experience a gap where services are not covered.

What You Need Before Renewing

Before renewing your CDCP coverage, you must:

  • File your 2025 tax return in Canada

  • Ensure your spouse or common-law partner has also filed (if applicable)

  • Receive your 2025 Notice of Assessment from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA)

The Government of Canada will also send direct communication with instructions explaining how to complete your renewal.

How to Renew Your CDCP Coverage

There are three ways to renew:

  1. Through your My Service Canada Account (MSCA)

  2. Online at Canada.ca/dental

  3. By phone: 1-833-537-4342
    TTY: 1-833-677-6262

Once your renewal is submitted and reviewed, you will receive a determination letter confirming:

  • Whether you remain eligible

  • Your coverage start date for the new benefit year

  • Your updated co-payment level, if applicable

Important: Your Co-Payment May Change

Your CDCP co-payment level can change each year depending on your updated income information. This means the amount you pay at your dental appointment may be different than previous visits.

For example:

  • If your co-payment increases (for example from 40% to 60%), you will pay more than originally estimated

  • If your co-payment decreases (for example from 40% to 0%), you will pay less

Coverage is always based on the co-payment level active on the day services are provided.

If You Don’t Renew

If you do not renew your CDCP eligibility:

  • Your coverage will end June 30, 2026

  • You will receive notice in your renewal letter

  • No additional confirmation letter will be sent after coverage ends

Late Renewals

You can still renew after June 1, 2026, but:

  • There may be a gap in your coverage

  • Dental services received during the gap will not be covered

  • Costs during this time cannot be reimbursed retroactively

A Reminder for Patients

Before any dental treatment, it’s always important to:

  • Confirm your current CDCP coverage

  • Understand your co-payment responsibilities

  • Discuss any non-covered services or costs

This helps ensure there are no surprises when treatment is completed.

If you have questions about your coverage before your appointment, our team is always happy to help guide you.
